Familiar faces have important messages for children during Covid-19

Children across West Belfast will be all too familiar with puppets Harper the Wonder Dog, Emer and Lorcan.

And in the absence of the classroom, the characters are helping to get some important messages across to our young ones about Covid-19.

West Belfast Partnership Board have produced the series of videos featuring the puppets to try and help children and their families with the Coronavirus pandemic, whilst keeping a relationship between the kids and characters.

So far, the trio have explained how to wash your hands, having fun indoors, helping at home and playing in the garden - all during lockdown.

The programme has this week been awarded funding from Future Screens Northern Ireland to further develop the Adventures of Harper the Wonder Dog with Emer and Lorcan.

Angie Mervyn, from WBPB said: "The characters were created by local author Liz Gough and are familiar to every nursery child in West Belfast.

"We are so happy to expand this as part of our DE Sharing and Learning with Future Screens NI and Yellow Design."

Harper the Wonder Dog is written by author Liz Gough for WBPB Sharing the Learning Programme and is supported by the Department of Education and produced by Yellow Design.
