Famed Dublin GAA fanatic Tony Broughan laid to rest amid heartfelt tributes at funeral

Family, friends and GAA fans celebrated the life of Dublin superfan Tony Broughan as he was laid to rest in Cabra today following his death last Wednesday.

Tony was famed for supporting the Dubs across the country for 80 years, and witnessed his beloved team landing their fifth All-Ireland title in a row in his last year attending games.

The procession, which was organised by Dublin GAA supporters, travelled from his home on Carnlough Rd in Cabra to the Church Of The Most Precious Blood for his funeral mass, as reported by Dublin Live.

Among the mourners were local TD and Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald, and the Sam Maguire cup was carried to the church alongside Tony's coffin.

A banner dedicated to Tony and carried by Dublin fans read "Sorry I had to leave, but I've seen everything, the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and five in a row. It's time to say goodbye and be with my wife.

"Best of luck to all GAA fans and thank you for the happiness you gave me. I'm up here in heaven looking over yous. Hill 16 is Dublin only."

Hill 16 icon Tony, who famously dressed up as Molly Malone at Dubs games for decades, sadly passed away last Wednesday.

A former employee of the Dublin corporation, he had famously claimed "I’m gonna die on the Hill", such was his devotion to the Dubs.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Rose, and is sadly missed by his daughters Rosemary, Patricia, Audrey, Martina, Jacinta and sons Anthony, Terry and Kenneth.

He will also be fondly remembered by his fellow Dublin supporters, along with the members of Naomh Fionnbarra GAA club, Handball Alley and his friends at the Sunday night sing along club.
