False alarm: Dexter Fowler-Anthony Rizzo bromance won't interfere with Fowlers' due date

Did Dexter Fowler really ask his wife, Aliya, to postpone her C-section so he could pal around in Chicago with Anthony Rizzo?

Fowler said Wednesday it was a false alarm.

The story began when Aliya wrote on her popular Instagram account about telling Dexter she was trying to schedule the date of her C-section. The Fowlers are expecting a second daughter in early July.

"So I text Dex to confirm the date is OK with him," she wrote, adding she was only doing so to be "nice" because obviously she can't control when their child is ready to be born.

"But he said 'That's not gonna work for me because we play Chicago and I gotta go see Rizzo.' "

Aliya added: "So I moved my due date. For you, Anthony Rizzo."

Naturally, the story of the Dex-Rizzo bromance taking precedence over the Fowler baby's birth date quickly went viral. Asked about the faux controversy on Wednesday morning at Wrigley Field, Rizzo laughed and said: "I think it's kind of funny. There's probably some joking there. I'm sure when they were going with the date, and he's coming here, I'm sure at the end of the day if she wanted to have the baby with a C-section, she's having it then."

But after hitting his 100th career home run on Wednesday against the White Sox, Dexter cleared things up during a Tribune interview in the Cardinals clubhouse.

"You know what, it was a misunderstanding," he said.

Yeah, right, Dex.

"I told her, 'Yeah, we're going to Chicago, and we can't miss the series in Chicago. I think we play the Cubs.' She's like, 'Oh, you just want to see Riz?' I said, 'I'd like to see Riz if he's there, yes.' "

But upon further review, Dexter discovered the Cardinals were actually in Chicago to play the White Sox, not the Cubs, on July 10 and 11, the dates in question.

"I thought we were playing the Cubs," he said. "I can't miss that series."

So you weren't the bad guy after all?

"Yeah, I'm always the bad guy," he said. "I'll take it. But it's good. She's ready to get that thing out. It's on her time. I tell her 'Whatever you want, babe.' "

Moral of the story: Don't mess with Aliya Fowler.
