Falls Road 'armed robbery' attempt investigated by police

A man armed with a suspected gun left empty handed after trying to rob a bookmakers in West Belfast.

After 5.35pm on Tuesday, the man entered the shop on the Falls Road before demanding money from two members of staff.

The pair were uninjured but badly shaken and the man left the premises without taking anything.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: " The male is described as being 5”10 in height, wearing a dark coloured hooded top with a white Nike logo on the front. He was wearing a scarf around his face and with his hood up during the incident.

"Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1266 31/12/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
