In 1993, an arts and music festival, then named Rock above the Falls, was held in Lorne, Victoria, and attracted an unexpected 11,000 people. Now known as Falls Festival, the event has expanded to fall over four days and been replicated in Marion Bay, Tasmania and Byron Bay, New South Wales.
Each year the festival has grown, from hosting 16 acts to more than 60 artists this year. The Byron Bay line-up includes Art Vs Science, The Wombats, Peking Duk, Alpine, Bloc Party, Courtney Barnett, Foals, Hiatus Kaiyote, Mac Demarco, Leon Bridges, Oh Wonder, Paul Kelly & Merri Soul Sessions, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Little May and Meg Mac among many others.
