Falling roof tiles force firefighters to partially close Fishponds Road

Firefighters were forced to close part of Fishponds Road due to falling roof tiles affecting the busy route.

Crews from Temple Fire Station were called to the site of the former Piccadilly restaurant, close to Stapleton Road, Easton, this afternoon (Monday, May 27) to deal with the reports of roof tiles falling onto the road and pavement below.

Images from the scene, tweeted by Avon Fire and Rescue Service, show a fire engine and a turntable ladder in attendance, with firefighters laying down cones to block the eastbound side of the major road.

The incident caused some delays in the area, however by mid-afternoon the fire service confirmed that the roof had been inspected and the road was set to reopen as usual.
