Falling profits force Wetherspoons to sell 16 pubs - this is where they are

Wetherspoons saw its profits fall in the first half of this financial year by almost a fifth.

On the back of this, the popular pub chain has announced it is to sell 16 of its UK venues, GloucestershireLive reports .

Profits fell 18.9 per cent while costs increased - including labour which increased by around £33million.

According to the Daily Record, chairman Tim Martin said: "As previously indicated, costs in the second half of the year will be higher than those of the same period last year.

"The company anticipates an unchanged trading outcome for the current financial year."

This is despite in the six weeks to Sunday, March 10, like-for-like sales increased by 9.6 per cent and total revenue jumped 10.9 per cent helped by good weather and favourable comparables.

And the company even opened two new pubs in the first half of the year - taking its total to 879 sites.
