Falling girl saved by lettering

Hospital staff are seen pulling the girl back onto the rooftop. Noom Muangnon’s Facebook page

By a stroke of luck, a young girl cheated death when she fell from a hospital rooftop and her shirt caught on metal lettering on the building's outside wall in Kanchanaburi.

A video clip posted online on Monday by a Facebook user named Noom Muangnon showed hospital staff risking their own safety to pull the girl back onto the roof.

TNN reported that the 4-year-old girl had gone with relatives on Sunday evening to visit her sick father, who was being treated on the seventh floor of the hospital. She later wandered off from them and went to the roof to play.

News reports said she was chasing a gecko that ran down the wall. She leaned out over the low parapet to catch it, lost her balance and fell. Miraculously, her shirt caught and held on the Thai alphabet letter tortao, part of the name of the building, Tuek 100 Pee, which means the 100 Years Building, about a metre below the rooftop’s edge.

Patients, relatives and other onlookers watched in awe as staff slowly pulled her to safety.
