Described by the regiment as a 'true Yorkshire warrior', he was expected to have a glittering career. Cpl Jake Hartley, 20, from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Known as JJ, rose swiftly to the rank of corporal. Seen as a natural leader and a possible future regimental sergeant-major. Attended Earlsheaton Technology College before enlisting at the age of 17. Knew from an early age that he wanted to be in the armyPhotograph: MODPte Daniel Wade, 20, from Warrington, Cheshire. Had only recently joined the battalion but quickly made his mark. Swiftly completed a Warrior driving course and won praise for doing so early in his career. Was just 16 when he signed on with the Yorkshire regiment. Friends said he left the army for a time and worked in a supermarket, but he later rejoined the military.
