Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz on playing Cubs opener: 'Cool father-son moment'

April 09--Pete Wentz said performing with his Fall Out Boy bandmates before the Cubs season opener at Wrigley Field on Sunday meant a lot to him, but not as much as it meant to his dad.

Wentz's dad was at the game to support his son and his beloved Cubs. Fall Out Boy -- which will perform July 11 at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park -- played three songs during its pre-game set on the make-shift stage behind second base.

"It was such a big deal for my dad," Wentz, a Wilmette native, said. "I'm not sure how rock music sounds when you don't bring in all your equipment. I don't know how my dad feels about us playing -- ever. But he was stoked to be at opening day and seeing us on the big screen. It was a pretty cool father-son moment."

Wentz said he is looking forward to taking his son Bronx to a game at Wrigley Field now that he is 6 years old, though the experience will likely be different than the those he enjoyed with his dad when he was younger. He said they used to start each game in the nose bleed section and then move up to better seats by the end of the game.

"That's a big source of pride for my dad," Wentz said. "But (on Sunday,) we had pretty good tickets. We actually got to start the game in the good seats."

Sightings: The Bulls' Derrick Rose was spotted Monday at RPM Steak. Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau had dinner April 3 at Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab ... The Cubs' Jon Lester dined Monday at RPM Italian.
