Fall Out Boy covering 'Ghostbusters' theme song for reboot

June 03--Fall Out Boy members announced Thursday they are covering Ray Parker Jr.'s theme song for the 1984 "Ghostbusters" movie with rapper Missy Elliott for the upcoming film reboot.

"Crossed one off the kid dream bucket list by covering Ray Parker theme with Missy Elliott verse," frontman Pete Wentz tweeted. Fall Out Boy hails from the North Shore.

The "Ghostbusters" reboot is due out July 15. Cast members Melissa McCarthy, a Plainfield native; Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are scheduled to appear on Wednesday's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts, who appeared in the 1984 film.

"Seeing the original and new Ghostbusters all together (will be) like being in the presence of the comedy gods on Mount Olympus," reboot director Paul Feig told USA Today in a statement. "This is an epic summit of some of the funniest people on the planet. Long live the Ghostbusters!" "Jimmy Kimmel Live" airs 10:35 p.m. weeknights on ABC.

Members of the 1984 cast, including Murray, who grew up in Wilmette, filmed cameos for the upcoming movie. Fans nostalgic for the original film can watch it in some theaters, including about a dozen in the Chicago area, Wednesday and June 12.
