Police are hunting a van and its driver after a man suffered serious head injuries following an incident in Tayside.
At around 10.30pm on Saturday the man climbed into the back of the motor which had stopped at traffic lights in Millgate, Arbroath.
When the vehicle drove away, the man fell off, suffering serious head injuries as a results.
Police are not treating the incident as a hit-and-run after speaking to witnesses.
Officers are working to trace the van involved and its driver.
Any witnesses or those with information are being asked to come forward.
It's believed some bystanders may have filmed the incident on their camera phones.
A spokesperson from Tayside Police Division said: "We are appealing for information about an incident which happened about 10:30pm on Saturday, August 22 in Millgate, Arbroath.
"A man climbed onto the back of a van which had stopped at lights, and fell off when it drove away, suffering serious head injuries as a result.
"Given the nature of the incident and from information obtained from witnesses already spoken with, this is not being treated as a hit-and-run type incident.
"Efforts to trace the van involved and its driver are ongoing.
"Our reference is incident 4673 of August 22."
