Falkirk woman runs 200 miles in memory of brother in special route visiting all the places he loved

A Falkirk woman is set to embark on a 200 mile charity run challenge in memory of her young brother who died.

Diane Harkins, 39, aims to run and walk everyday in February to raise cash for The Sepsis UK Trust, after 10-year-old Jamie passed away with the illness 20 years ago this month.

A fundraiser has been set up and already hit almost £3,000 despite only setting a target for £200.

It's not just any challenge though, Diane is visiting all the places her brother loved to visit and wants to make more people aware of the infection.

Speaking to Falkirk Live, she said: "Twenty years on and not a day goes by that me and my mum don’t think about him and miss him so much. And wish everyday that we knew the signs of Sepsis and how fatal it is.

"So for his 20th anniversary I decided not only to do this for Sepsis UK Trust, to help improve awareness, but also in memory of Jamie.

"For the month of February I made my own challenge to run/walk 200 miles in 28 days. At first I thought a 100, but then thought no I need a good challenge. I didn’t want to make it easy for me. I was prepared physically and mentally to do this for Jamie and for a great cause."

Sepsis is a bacterial infection, which can be very difficult to spot, especially in babies and younger children.

Diane added: The support has been incredible. When I set up the page my initial target was £200, in hours I had raised £500 then by days it was thousands. I was completely shocked. Not only with the support of people donating but the overall support has been amazing.

"Messages, phone calls from lots of people and friends and family have been helping support me on my walks. It has all kept me motivated at times when I have struggled."
