Falkirk staring at the drop after sorry defeat to Dundee United - Championship round-up

Falkirk moved a step closer to dropping out of the Scottish Championship after a devastating loss to Dundee United.

After Ross County sealed the league title with a comprehensive win over Queen of the South on Friday night, the Bairns knew they could move level with their relegation rivals with a win at Tannadice.

The play-off bound Tangerines dominated the first half though and went into the break 2-0 up thanks to a Rachid Bouhenna header and Paul McMullan strike.

Falkirk huffed and puffed in the second half but Ray McKinnon's men couldn't find a way back into the game.

They now head into their final match next Saturday with league champions Ross County knowing they have to win.

They also have to hope 9th place Alloa don't pick up a point on their trip to Ayr United.

Alloa looked to be heading for an unexpected and much-needed win over Inverness thanks to Alan Trouten's first half penalty.

Inverness rallied in the second half though, equalising through Shaun Rooney's strike before Charlie Trafford slammed home the winner.

Ayr warmed up for their upcoming play-off challenge with an excellent away win over Partick Thistle.

The Jags took an early lead through Shea Gordon's header, but strikes from Liam Smith and Aaron Muirhead ensured Ian McCall's men head into their final league match with Alloa in fine form.

Midtable rivals Dunfermline and Greenock Morton looked to be playing out a goalless draw at East End Park, with the visitors struggling to make their man advantage pay after Jackson Longridge was sent off.

With just six minutes left on the clock Myles Hippolytre conceded a penalty for a foul on Greg Kiltie.

Kiltie stepped up himself and made no mistake from the spot to seal all three points.
