A massive sinkhole that has forced the closure of a major road through Falkirk is likely to have been caused by a leaking water pipe, according to engineers.
Emergency services rushed to Bellsdyke Road in the Larbert area shortly after 6pm on Tuesday October, 19, after reports a footpath had collapsed.
The road between Tryst Road and Hamilton Road and near to the entrance of Bellsdyke Hospital was quickly taped off to keep locals and drivers safe.
However, it's hope to be re-opened under a two-way traffic light system today, Friday October, 22.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "Scottish Water has been investigating the cause of the sinkhole in Bellsdyke Road. We have found that it is likely to have been caused by a leaking water pipe.
"During these investigations, we have also identified a damaged sewer and we are undertaking repairs to both at the same time.
"We are aiming to reinstate and open half of the road today under two way traffic lights to relieve congestion and will continue to carry out repairs over the weekend.
"We thank residents and motorists for their patience while we carry out this repair."
