Falkirk Sheriff Court set for eco-friendly solar panel power boost

Falkirk Sheriff Court is to get new solar panels, thanks to new technology that will help to make the building even more eco-friendly.

The court already has an array of solar panels taking up a large part of the existing roof space.

However, when the original panels were installed, the space at the front roof of the building was discounted due to shading, which meant new panels would not be cost-effective.

A planning application to Falkirk Council shows that since then the cost of installing panels has fallen, while the panels have become much more efficient.

This allowed the court to reconsider expanding the solar panels, increasing the amount of clean energy the building runs on.

Planning permission for the new panels was approved on March 25.

Installation of the new panels is part of the Scottish Courts Service's ongoing drive to reduce its carbon emissions year on year.
