Falkirk falls silent to remember the lives lost during the coronavirus pandemic

Staff at Forth Valley Royal Hospital joined Falkirk in a minute's silence earlier to remember those who have lost their lives during the coronavirus pandemic.

It's exactly one year ago today that Scotland was put into its very first lockdown.

And since that more than 7,500 people have sadly died after contracting coronavirus, 775 of them in Falkirk.

At midday the district fell silent, including those who work for the local health board.

Cathie Cowan, Chief Executive of NHS Forth Valley, said: "This has been an incredibly difficult year and it’s important to take some time to reflect on everything that has happened over the last 12 months.

"I would like to thank staff across the organisation for their care and compassion and to remember everyone affected by the ongoing pandemic."

Andrea Fyfe, Director of Acute Service, NHS Forth Valley, said: "Staff have worked very hard to support local patients and families and I’m in awe of everything they have done and continue to do in very challenging circumstances.

"It’s good to take time to reflect and look at what we have learned over the last year.

"There have been many sad and poignant times but we are also hopeful for the future as we continue with our recovery plans and ongoing work to provide safe and effective care for local patients."
