As we move into a period of traditional festive cheer you could be forgiven for not exactly feeling festive.
The pandemic has caused much frustration and loss over the past 20 months and we are all tired.
Although we appear to be on the edge of another difficult period, it is worth remembering that we have much to be proud of.
The heroic efforts of our NHS staff, vaccinators, care workers and other front-facing public servants should be recognised and celebrated.
Under extremely challenging circumstances, they continue to be a light guiding us through the darkness.
I must also say thank you to the public for continuing to weather this storm.
We are in this situation together. While some may think that they are immune to the impacts of the pandemic, we must strive to stay safe for their sake too.
It will take a collective effort to get through and I hope for the best in humanity to shine through once more.
We must in all circumstances wish good will to our fellow citizens.
This period can be lonely for some and, after nearly two years of isolation, the effects can be felt even more deeply.
Be kind to one another, knock on your neighbour’s door to wish them well.
We will make the best of a bad situation, as we tend to do, and we will get through this for each other as much as for ourselves.
To all constituents, businesses and communities - I wish you the very best for the coming festive season, and guid health, guid wealth and happiness for 2022 and beyond.
