Falkirk council u-turn over charges to replace bins destroyed in deliberate blaze

Residents in a Falkirk street will no longer be charged to replace around 40 bins which were deliberately set on fire last week.

The blaze broke out near a block of flats on Windsor Crescent in Maddiston at around 12:30am on Wednesday April, 7.

Residents were advised by Falkirk Council that the cost to replace the bin would be £25 each, with each household having 3 bins.

After Falkirk Live contacted the local authority about the claims, they have now confirmed the bins will be replaced for free.

One woman who lives in the block said: "I called Falkirk Council four times, and all four times I was told I'd need to cough up £25 per bin."

A Falkirk Council spokesperson said: "Replacement bins have been delivered with no charge to residents."

Cops have launched a manhunt for the person responsible.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 12.30am on Wednesday, 7 April, 2021 following the report a bin shed on fire on Windsor Crescent, Falkirk.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire safely and there were no injuries.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing and which is currently being treated as suspicious."
