Falcons won’t tender ERFA Marvin Hall, moving on from the WR/RS

In a puzzling move, the Atlanta Falcons have decided not to tender exclusive rights free agent wide receiver and returner Marvin Hall, according to his Instagram. It’s a surprising decision considering the exclusive rights tender was just $645,000 and wouldn’t have adjusted the cap more than $100,000-$200,000.

The speedy wide receiver was one of the better deep threats on the Falcons over the past few seasons, but dropped balls could have been what caused his demise. His inability to secure the returner job contributed, as well. But the largest factor seems to be the coaching change at offensive coordinator from Steve Sarkisian to Dirk Koetter.

Sarkisian was Hall’s college coach and turned him into the Falcons’ surprise deep threat at times. Hall would also eat into some of Julio Jones’ snaps because of how Sarkisian liked to rest Jones. Koetter has no connection to Hall, though. He likely wants his own guys in Atlanta, and it’d be unlikely to expect him to want Hall here long-term.

In the meantime, thanks to Hall for two of the better touchdowns we got to see under Sarkisian:
