Falcons waive Hamp Cheevers, sign former Georgia State linebacker

The Falcons have made another move at the bottom end of their roster. The team announced on Friday afternoon that they have signed former Georgia State linebacker Chase Middleton and released cornerback Hamp Cheevers.

Middleton (6-foot-2, 235 pounds) played 38 games for the Panthers, totaling 190 combined tackles (8.5 for a loss), 3.5 sacks, five pass breakups and one interception.

In order to make the 53-man roster, Middleton has to beat out guys like Stephone Anthony and Richie Brown. His addition could be another sign that Duke Riley has fallen out of favor, or at least that Dan Quinn is unsatisfied with his linebacker depth.
