Falcons vs. Eagles: History has favored Philadelphia

The Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles aren’t in the same division, but the two teams have seen a lot of each other over the past three seasons. Unfortunately for Atlanta, Philly has come away victorious in all three meetings, including a playoff matchup.

In the divisional round back in 2017, the Falcons had a chance to win the game with a touchdown at the end but the Eagles defense stood tough in the red zone.

Then, the Falcons had a chance at redemption in the closing seconds of their 2018 season-opener and the Eagles again stood tough in the red zone — escaping with an 18-12 win.

Historically, the Eagles have won 20 of their 35 matchups with Atlanta going back to 1966.

While these two franchises have had elite offenses in recent years, over their past three meetings the Falcons haven’t even scored 20 points in a game. The Eagles topped 20 just once in those meetings, during a 24-15 win in 2016.

Things could be different this time, however, as the Eagles put up 32 points in Week 1 and have quarterback Carson Wentz back under center. Nick Foles started the previous two games for Philly.

And despite a putrid Week 1 performance by the Falcons, they have too many weapons to only score twelve points as they did last week in Minnesota.

It should be a great matchup in Week 2 as the Eagles look to build momentum and the Falcons attempt to avoid a dreaded 0-2 start to the season.

The game kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
