Falcons vs. Eagles: DT Malik Jackson out for season

The Falcons’ Week 1 loss to the Vikings was made even worse by the fact that rookie first-round pick Chris Lindstrom broke his foot. Atlanta hosts the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, who will be without a key offseason acquisition of their own.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo is reporting that Eagles Pro Bowl defensive tackle Malik Jackson is likely out for the year due to a Lisfranc injury he suffered in Sunday’s win over the Redskins.

The Eagles gave Jackson a three-year, $30 million contract in the offseason. Now, after the former Jaguars and Broncos defensive lineman had not missed a single game over the past six years, Jackson’s season is probably over after one week.

Fortunately for Philadelphia, they still have a healthy Fletcher Cox, who has dominated in his last two meetings with the Falcons in the 2018 season opener and in the 2017 divisional round of the playoffs.

Cox has totaled 10 tackles and 2.5 sacks over those two previous games — both of which ended with Atlanta stalling out in the red zone with a chance to win.

Facing a potential 0-2 hole, the Falcons desperately need a win in their home opener on Sunday to get the season back on track.
