The Falcons outlasted a talented Eagles team in Week 2, but they face a different type of challenge in this Sunday’s game against Indianapolis. Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett isn’t quite Andrew Luck. However, the team is set up so he doesn’t have to be. The young passer can rely on a strong running game led by Marlon Mack, the way the Vikings rode Dalvin Cook to a victory over Atlanta in Week 1.
Here are four key matchups to watch in the Falcons’ Week 3 battle with the Colts.
DT Grady Jarrett vs. C Ryan Kelly

Jarrett has once again been the Falcons’ most consistent and disruptive defensive lineman. He will have his work cut out for him this weekend, facing off against a tough Colts interior offensive line. The group, led center Ryan Kelly has helped the team stay afloat while they transition from Luck to Brissett. Jarrett has played brilliantly so far and he will need to continue doing so to stop Indy from dominating at the line of scrimmage.
CB Desmond Trufant vs. WR T.Y. Hilton

Trufant was helped by an injury-riddled Eagles offense, but he still played a fantastic game. He had two interceptions and helped lead a Falcons secondary that currently ranks No. 1 in passing yards allowed. Trufant has a tough matchup this week, though. Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton has been one of the more overlooked wide receivers of the last five years. This year, despite not having Luck in the lineup, Hilton has posted 130 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
WR Calvin Ridley vs. CB Kenny Moore II

Ridley continues to build upon an impressive rookie season. The former Alabama wideout caught touchdowns in each of the first two weeks and is currently leading the team in receiving yards with 169. The Colts re-signed young Kenny Moore in the offseason after and the former undrafted free agent is currently serving as the team’s No. 2 corner. If Indianapolis is able to contain Julio Jones, look for Ridley to have a big day unless Moore is able to keep Ridley in front of him.
Deion Jones vs. RB Marlon Mack

Jones’ return to the Falcons defense is a major factor in why the team has allowed the third fewest yards so far. His speed in diagnosing the play and ability to find ball-carrier makes everyone around him better. Running the ball for Indy will be Marlon Mack — the NFL’s third leading rusher with 225 yards. The Falcons struggled against Dalvin Cook and if they don’t tackle Mack when they have the chance, he could be in for a very productive game.
