Falcons trade up again, pick Charleston DE John Cominsky at No. 135

The Falcons clearly are going quality over quantity when it comes to their picks in the 2019 NFL draft. After moving up in the fourth round for Ohio State cornerback Kendall Sheffield, Atlanta made another trade, moving up two spots to No. 135 overall.

With that pick, the Falcons chose one of this year’s sleeper edge prospects in Charleston defensive end John Cominsky.

Cominsky comes in at 6-foot-5, 286 pounds with 33.5 inch arms. At the combine, he posted 22 bench press reps and a 4.69 second 40-yard dash time. He won the Mountain East Defensive Player of the Year for 2018 after putting up three sacks and 16.5 for loss.

As a rookie, Cominsky should compete for snaps with Steven Means and Chris Odom at the lower end of the edge rotation. He might move up quickly though and could eventually take over Vic Beasley’s spot.

Atlanta gave up their seventh-round pick to the Raiders to move up for Cominsky. The Falcons also traded their Day 2 picks to the Rams in order to get Washington offensive tackle Kaleb McGary at No. 31 overall.
