Falcons trade back into first round, pick Washington OT Kaleb McGary

The Atlanta Falcons are deadly serious about improving their offensive line. After picking Boston College guard Chris Lindstrom with the No. 14 overall pick, Atlanta traded back into the first round with the Los Angeles Rams to get Washington offensive tackle Kaleb McGary at No. 31.

According to Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Falcons are getting the Rams’ No. 203 pick in addition to No. 31 pick. Los Angeles is getting Atlanta’s No. 45 and No. 79 picks.

McGary (6-foot-7, 317 pounds) has an inspiring story and has overcome a great deal in his personal life to get to this level.

If there’s a notable knock on McGary, it’s his lack of arm length. At the combine, they were measured at 32.875 inches. However, he has a firm base and a good frame for the NFL.

McGary started 33 games at right tackle for Washington, which is probably where he’ll end up playing for the Falcons. That likely means Lindstrom will be lining up at right guard.
