Falcons save more cap room by cutting OT Ryan Schraeder

The Falcons went into the 2019 offseason with a very limited amount of cap room, some estimates putting them as low as $6 million under the cap. Atlanta has since made a couple of moves to free up more room, though.

On Tuesday, it was reported the team restructured quarterback Matt Ryan’s contract, converting some base salary into a signing bonus and freeing up $7 million in the process.

Wednesday, the team pulled off another cap-friendly move by releasing OT Ryan Schraeder, according to a report by Tom Pelissero at NFL Network.

Releasing Schraeder will save the team $3.95 million in cap room for 2019 if it’s a pre-June 1 cut, and $6.45 million if post-June 1.

Sambrailo is now penciled in as the team’s new starting right tackle.

Update:

The team has confirmed the move. They are designating Schraeder a post-June 1 cut, so they’ll save the larger amount – in total they save $18.8 million over the next three seasons.
