Falcons salary cap update after cutting Brooks Reed, Matt Bryant and Robert Alford

The Atlanta Falcons made some hard cuts earlier in the week when they let go of cornerback Robert Alford, edge defender Brooks Reed and kicker Matt Bryant for cap savings. These moves saved the team some room so that they can improve the roster as a whole and hopefully, try to re-sign defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and give wide receiver Julio Jones a raise.

Cutting Robert Alford saved almost $8 million in 2019 while saving $9 million in 2020. Cutting Brooks Reed cleared up $4.5 million from the books and Matt Bryant’s cut saved around $3 million from the books. After all was said and done, the Falcons used those three cuts to save around $15 million from the 2019 salary cap.

These moves brought the team to $31.7 million under the cap based on my calculations. Atlanta can now use that money to lock up Julio Jones and Grady Jarrett for the long-term. That being said, Atlanta could also look at the following potential cuts:

WR Mohamed Sanu: saves $4.6 million in 2019 and $7.9 million in 2020

OT Ryan Schraeder: saves $3.95 million in 2019, $7.35 million in 2020 and $7.5 million in 2021

OG Brandon Fusco: saves $3.35 million in 2019 and $4.9 million in 2020

EDGE Vic Beasley: saves $12.8 million in 2019

P Matt Bosher: saves $2.5 million in 2019
