Falcons safety Ricardo Allen critical of penalty called on injured Keanu Neal

After Falcons safety Keanu Neal tore his Achilles in the first half of Sunday’s loss to the Colts, he tossed his helmet off while writhing in pain on the turf — which is technically a penalty.

While it was certainly within the rights of the officials to make that call, it was a bad look for the NFL. Neal’s backfield mate Ricardo Allen was critical of the decision by the referees, suggesting they should have simply waived off the penalty.

Read what he had to say, as tweeted by The Athletic’s Jason Butt below.

Allen certainly has a point but there’s nothing anybody can do about it now. You just hope that going forward the NFL will learn to make exceptions to this rule when players are obviously in pain or seriously injured.
