Falcons rise up to No. 17 in Week 3 power rankings

The Falcons’ Week 2 victory over the Eagles wasn’t pretty. Quarterback Matt Ryan threw three interceptions during an injury-filled mess of a matchup and Nelson Agholor dropped what might have been a game-winning catch.

Still, the team persevered to get the win, and rightfully moved up in Touchdown Wire’s newest power rankings. Doug Farrar lists the Falcons at No. 17 this week, climbing up seven spots from their Week 2 ranking after they got embarrassed by the Vikings in their first game of the season.

While Ryan’ turnovers are concerning, Farrar was impressed by the the team’s defensive potential now that it’s fully healthy.

“Atlanta’s defense, a liability without linebacker Deion Jones and safety Keanu Neal for various stretches of time in 2018, is looking more like what head coach Dan Quinn wants it to be.”

With head coach Dan Quinn taking over the defensive play-calling duties, this group could really take off. A healthier back seven and an improved pass rush have led to the Falcons having the NFL’s top-rated pass defense after two weeks. Atlanta’s secondary has allowed just 167 yards per game through the air.

If Ryan can get his turnovers under control and the Falcons can get Devonta Freeman and the run game going, they’ll be a force.
