Falcons release 3 players, sign 2 others

The Falcons saw enough on Thursday night to release at least three players: cornerback Rashard Causey, safety Jason Thompson and long snapper Kyle Vasey.

To replace Causey, the team signed former Jets safety Ronald Martin.

As for Vasey, former Boston College cornerback Hamp Cheevers will take his place. Cheevers had a productive 2018 season as a junior, posting seven interceptions and a defensive touchdown. He’s a little undersized (5-foot-9, 169 pounds) but a 39-inch vertical at the combine is indicative of some special athleticism.

Along with Martin, Cheevers will compete for one of the defensive back spots on the back end of the Falcons roster.

There is one open spot on the 90-man roster at the moment.
