Falcons release kicker Matt Bryant, sign Younghoe Koo

The Falcons tried to move on from Matt Bryant in the offseason, but with his would-be replacements struggling, the team brought back the 44-year-old kicker just before the season began.

Eight weeks later, Bryant has been released by Atlanta, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Bryant was shakier than usual this season, hitting 9 of 14 kicks for a career-low 64.4 percent success rate. He missed two kicks in the Falcons’ Week 8 loss to the Seahawks.

With the team 1-7, the front office is looking towards the future. Atlanta worked out Elliott Fry and Younghoe Koo on Monday. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the team will sign Koo:

Bryant has been an outstanding kicker in this league for nearly 20 years, and despite his struggles this season, that is how most will remember him.
