Falcons re-sign DE Steven Means to 1-year deal

The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed Steven Means to a one-year deal. The deal is likely a veteran minimum extension for the depth edge defender.

Before Means re-signed with the Falcons, they had only Takkarist McKinley and Vic Beasley under contract at defensive end. The move gives them someone who is familiar with their scheme and more depth and special teams coverage for another season. This comes on the heels of linebacker Bruce Carter re-signing with the Falcons a few days ago.

After Derrick Shelby went down for the 2018 season with an injury, Means had a solid season once he was able to start a few games in the base package.

Atlanta isn’t done adding players to their edge rotation just yet. They could be looking at players in the draft to help impact it as well as a potential re-signing of Bruce Irvin or an outside free agent to bolster the rotation. But heading into the draft and signing periods with McKinley, Beasley and Means is a good start.
