Falcons QB Matt Ryan ranked No. 10 in PFF’s latest QB rankings

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was held out of the team’s Week 8 loss to the Seattle Seahawks due to an ankle injury. According to head coach Dan Quinn, Ryan will be back in Week 10 when Atlanta takes on the New Orleans Saints.

In seven games this season, the former MVP has thrown for 2,170 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions, for a passer rating of 98.7. It hasn’t been Ryan’s best season, but he certainly has not been the problem, either.

In the newest Pro Football Focus quarterback rankings, Ryan was ranked tenth. Check out what out PFF wrote below:

Ryan is one of the league’s best when throwing at the all-important intermediate (10-19 yard) level, ranking sixth in the league with a 91.8 grade over the last two years, but he must do a better job of taking care of the ball in order to get to his previous level of play when he ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the league in both 2016 and 2017.

Last week we talked about NFL.com’s QB rankings, where Ryan was also ranked tenth. It seems that while he’s fallen out of favor with the national media due to the Falcons’ disastrous start in 2019, few are willing to drop him below No. 10.

With Ryan completing over 70 percent of his passes, and near the top of the league in passing yards and touchdown passes, it’s hard to pin all the blame on his shoulders.

Even if the Falcons get a new coach, it’s tough to imagine Ryan not being the quarterback going forward. He needs to be better, but so does just about everybody else on the team this season.
