Falcons QB Matt Ryan on his role in picking team’s next coach, GM

The Falcons have only managed to win one game since their bye in Week 10. This is a complete turnaround from the second-half run the team went on in 2019. Atlanta lost five straight games to close out the 2020 season.

Quarterback Matt Ryan spoke to the media following the game about his role in the search for the team’s next head coach and general manager.

“It’s in their hands, to make a decision, to go through this process to find the best person for our organization when it comes to head coach and [general manager],” said Ryan.

“They know where I’m at if they need me and obviously available and willing to give my input,” continued Ryan. “I’ve done that with them consistently throughout my career and so they know how I feel.”

The 13-year veteran’s future with the Falcons has been in question throughout this entire year. After Dan Quinn was fired, both Arthur Blank and Rich McKay failed to fully back Ryan and Julio Jones, saying the new general manager and head coach will have full control to do as they please.

Ryan indicated he has no preference as to whether the new leadership is offensive or defensive-minded. The Falcons quarterback just wants to win games.

“Style, to me, lets just find the person who’s going to help us get over that hump, to find a way to win more football games and be competitive late into the year,” Ryan concluded. Check out his postgame press conference below.
