Matt Ryan has always been one of the sharpest quarterbacks in football when it comes to dissecting zone defenses. Even though the 2018 season was disappointing in many respects, Ryan still had a strong year and continued to perform well against the zone.
According to Pro Football Focus, Ryan had the third highest passer rating in the NFL against zone defenses last season. Only league MVP Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson posted better numbers.
Ryan finished just behind Mahomes in a number of different statistical categories in 2018, including fantasy points per target and attempts of 40 yards or more through the air.
