Falcons projected to finish second in NFC South

The Atlanta Falcons missed the postseason in 2018, finishing second in the NFC South with a 7-9 record. It was the Falcons’ first losing season under head coach Dan Quinn and as a result, the hype surrounding the team has died down significantly.

A lack of salary cap space made it tough for general manager Thomas Dimitroff to make any splashy moves in free agency, leaving the upcoming NFL draft as Atlanta’s primary source for upgrading their roster.

CG Technology has released their NFL win projections and they don’t see much of an improvement from the Falcons next season — projecting just 8.5 wins in 2019. That would put them in second place in the NFC South, with the New Orleans Saints (10.5 projected wins) again finishing first.

As for the rest of the division, the Carolina Panthers are projected to win eight games, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are near the bottom with just six projected wins.

It’s important to take these lists with a grain of salt as a lot can happen between now and the start of the regular season. Plus, as the Falcons have shown time and time again, they are pretty good at finding impactful players in the draft.
