Falcons president calls Julio Jones ‘the ultimate professional’

We are into the third week of August and Falcons All-Pro wideout Julio Jones has yet to receive a long-term extension, which many believe will make him the highest-paid receiver in the league.

Team president Rich McKay spoke with 92.9 FM The Game prior Thursday’s preseason game against the Jets, saying Jones has handled the contract situation about as well as possible.

“It’s really different than any typical negotiation. . . The thing about Julio is that he’s the ultimate professional. He’s really tried to handle it the right way. He’s been in. He’s worked hard. He’s ready to go.”

Jones has shown up to training camp when a lot of players in his position wouldn’t even consider it, which is a credit to his leadership. His drama-free mentality is especially refreshing in light of the recent Antonio Brown helmet saga with the Raiders.

Julio told reporters this week his helmet fits fine.
