Falcons owner Arthur Blank: Goal for Julio Jones deal is before season starts

It seemed inevitable after Falcons linebacker Deion Jones and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett received long-term extensions that Atlanta’s star wide receiver Julio Jones would receive his next. That’s still the plan according to team owner Arthur Blank, who told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he still intends to get a deal done with Jones before the start of the regular season.

“We’ll have to let things take their course. . . I know that we are definitely in serious negotiations. It’s our goal and their goal as well to get it done before the start of the season.”

Time is running out for the Falcons to reach that deadline as we are now less than two weeks away from Atlanta’s Week 1 matchup with the Vikings.

When Jones does sign, he is expected to earn over $20 million per year, eclipsing his division rival – Saints star Michael Thomas – as the highest paid wide receiver in football.
