Falcons have historically been dominated by the Vikings in September

The Falcons are 3.5-point underdogs for Sunday’s regular season opener against the Vikings. If they can pull off the upset, it will be the first time that Atlanta has ever beaten Minnesota in the month of September.

Going all the way back to the franchise’s first season in 1966, the Falcons have played the Vikings eight times in the first month and have lost all eight of them. The games have usually not been close, either. Atlanta’s September losses to Minnesota have come by an average 15.3 points.

The Vikings have also won all three games against Atlanta in the Dan Quinn era, earning victories in 2014, 2015 and 2017. In the last two meetings, Minnesota’s tight defense has held them to an average of just 9.5 points.
