Falcons drop to No. 26 in TD Wire’s Week 5 Power Rankings

After another ugly loss in Week 4, the Falcons sit at the bottom of the NFC South with a 1-3 record. It’s too early to write them off, but the past two weeks have been discouraging to say the least.

The team predictably dropped in Touchdown Wire’s Week 5 power rankings, which had Atlanta ranked at No. 26 (six spots lower than Week 4).

Offensively, the team just hasn’t been good enough despite having weapons that most franchises would love to have, according to Doug Farrar.

If you’re wondering whether the Falcons’ offense is broken, consider this: In Atlanta’s 24-10 loss to the Titans, Matt Ryan attempted 53 passes and threw for no touchdowns. It was the 24th time in NFL history that a quarterback was unable to get the ball in the end zone with at least that many attempts, and it’s indicative of a passing game that hasn’t done nearly enough with the talent it has.

The Falcons are No. 11 in total yards per game, yet rank No. 27 in points per game. Big first-half deficits have caused the team to abandon the run and become one-dimensional.

Atlanta opens its Week 5 matchup with the Houston Texans as a 4.5-point underdog.
