Falcons defense has third-lowest pressure rate without blitzing

The Falcons’ inability to get after the quarterback is one of the reasons the team is off to a 1-4 start.

Head coach Dan Quinn’s defense is predicated on getting pressure with a four-man rush, but it’s clearly not working this season. Through five games, the team has just five total sacks — which is tied for last in the NFL with the Broncos and Dolphins.

According to this tweet by NFL Matchup on ESPN, the Falcons have the third-worst pressure rate in the league without the blitz.

The Texans dropped 53 points on Atlanta in Week 5, with quarterback Deshaun Watson throwing for five touchdown passes and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.

Earlier in the season, it was the offense holding the Falcons back, but when they finally showed up on Sunday, Quinn’s defense let them down.

Somehow, this team must figure out a way to get more pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
