The Falcons have claimed former Patriots quarterback Danny Etling off waivers, according to the official team website.
Etling played two years at Purdue and two more at LSU. In 24 games with the Tigers, he posted 4,586 passing yards to go with 27 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 144.4 passer rating.
Etling (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) is likely being brought in as another option for a third-string quarterback. Starter Matt Ryan is going nowhere and Matt Schaub should feel comfortable about his place at QB2 after a strong outing against Miami last week.
If anyone has reason to feel pressured by this move, it’s Matt Simms.
Atlanta’s roster now stands at 90 players.
