The Falcons will play their fifth and final preseason game Thursday night against the Jaguars at 7:00 pm ET. While both teams have yet to win a game in the 2019 preseason, Atlanta has lost 12 straight. The oddsmakers in Vegas are banking that tonight will be unlucky No. 13 for the Falcons as they are currently listed as four-point underdogs against the Jags.
You can usually put some stock in these odds. However, being that it’s the last game of the preseason and it will be decided by players that for the most part won’t be starting Week 1, this shouldn’t be a concern.
It’s easy to say the preseason doesn’t matter and it technically doesn’t in the big picture. There’s no better evidence than the Lions going 4-0 back in 2008, only to go 0-16 in the regular season.
Still, head coaches are fiercely competitive by nature and Dan Quinn would not be happy losing every preseason game this year, even if it doesn’t count.
