Falcons waive safety Afolabi Laguda

The Atlanta Falcons announced that they have released safety Afolabi Laguda. The news comes as a small surprise since he signed a two-year deal just six weeks ago.

Laguda played his college ball at Colorado, where he posted two interceptions and seven passes defensed in 34 games and three seasons.

After going undrafted, he was picked up by the Rams before last season but he was placed on injured reserve and waived. He has not played in an NFL game.

If this move is significant for anyone on the roster, it’s likely a sign that Chris Cooper’s star is rising. He also signed a two-year deal at the same time as Laguda and has been sharing the workload at free safety with Sharrod Neasman at OTAs while Ricardo Allen recovers from his Achilles injury.
