The Atlanta Falcons have several holes to fill on their roster and not enough cap space to address all of them in free agency. With the 2021 NFL draft a few months away, the Falcons have needs at edge rusher, running back, safety, left guard and you could argue at quarterback as well.
One option for the team is to trade back, bypassing a quarterback with the No. 4 overall pick and accumulating as many picks as possible. Using the Pro Football Network mock draft simulator, I made two trades before that could help Atlanta add depth and talent.
Trade 1: Falcons move down to pick No. 11
Atlanta trades picks No. 4 and 68 to the Giants for No. 11, 42, 175 and a 2022 first-rounder. In this situation, Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields were off the board at pick No. 4 and the Giants move up for Oregon OL Penei Sewell.
Trade 2: Falcons swap No. 11 for No. 18, add two additional picks
Why trade down seven spots just to pick up yet another second-round pick and a 2022 third-rounder? There were 5-6 guys I really liked at pick No. 11, and they were all pretty much equal in my eyes. Here’s my first mock of the season after making these two trades.
