Falcons 2019 rookie watch: Marcus Green, Olamide Zaccheaus drop the ball

Despite a 19-7 preseason loss to the Redskins on Thursday night, there were plenty of bright spots for Falcons fans to be excited about following the game.

The class of 2019 wasn’t one of them.

Kick Return Issues

Two Atlanta rookies, wide receivers Marcus Green and Olamide Zaccheaus, both squandered chances to win the starting return specialist duties after a painful couple of returns.

First, Green muffed a punt, which was recovered by the Redskins, then Zaccheaus, on the very next punt, dropped the ball and forfeited another Falcons possession.

Green would bounce back with a nice 25-yard return in the fourth quarter, but it may have been too little too late. Zaccheaus also caught two passes for 19 yards. He still has an uphill battle to make the team, though.

Ideally, one of these two can handle the return duties. If not, it’ll have to be Justin Hardy, Calvin Ridley or another veteran with previous experience in this part of the game.

In related news, running back Quadree Ollison had a decent performance, rushing 12 times for 42 yards. Defensive end John Cominsky did well as part of a strong overall outing for the defensive line unit.
