Falcons 2019 preseason: Matt Ryan, 6 other players ruled out vs. Dolphins

The Falcons won’t be playing several of their key pieces tonight against the Dolphins.

According to team reporter Will McFadden, Atlanta has ruled out starting quarterback Matt Ryan, wide receiver Mohamed Sanu, center Alex Mack, left tackle Jake Matthews, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and safeties Ricardo Allen and Keanu Neal.

Dan Quinn told reporters Ryan would play earlier this week, but it sounds like the rainy weather and field conditions may have changed his mind.

Wide receiver Julio Jones is also not playing tonight or for the rest of the preseason.

Update:

Several other players have also been ruled out.

The first group of players are just precautionary holdouts. There’s no reason to risk them getting hurt during a meaningless preseason game.

The second list from Matt Tabeek mostly consists of the players who have been working through minor injuries or in the case of Kaleb McGary, recovering from a heart procedure.
