Fake Xbox Series X giveaway is circulating on Facebook - key sign it's a scam

After months of anticipation, the Xbox Series X finally went on sale around the world yesterday.

Unsurprisingly, crafty cybercriminals have used the launch as an attempt to prey on unsuspecting customers.

Researchers from Avast have warned of a fake Xbox Series X giveaway that has been circulating on Facebook this week.

The giveaway is predominantly spreading in Spain, and can be identified with the hashtag #QUÉDATEENCASA.

It claims that to ‘win’ a free Xbox Series X, you must click on an ad shown in the post, after which you’ll be taken to a website with a quiz.

If you complete the quiz, you’ll be shown a congratulatory image, claiming that you’ve won the giveaway.

To claim your ‘prize’, you’ll be asked to share the promotion with five WhatsApp contacts, helping the scam to spread.

Unfortunately, there’s no free Xbox Series X at the end of the whole thing, and instead just a wasted 10 minutes of your life.

There’s one key sign that this is a scam - the promotional image shows an Xbox One X, and not an Xbox Series X!
