Fake rugby website found phishing credit card information

A fake website that is phishing credit card information by offering free broadcasts of the 2019 Rugby World Cup has emerged, an information security company has warned.

According to Trend Micro Inc., headquartered in Tokyo, the site is titled "Watch 2019 Rugby World Cup Live" and asks those who want to view World Cup broadcasts live to register as members in Japanese.

During the fake registration process, the site asks them to enter such items as their email address and country of residence as well as their credit card number with the expiration date and security code.

The date when this site was launched is unknown, however the domain was obtained in July.

"Nothing about the operator is mentioned on the site, and it is a typical phishing site," Trend Micro's Katsuyuki Okamoto said. "One should never enter credit card information [on this kind of site]."
